Polymerization of Isoprene by Using Benzyl Diethyldithiocarbamate as an Iniferter
نویسندگان
چکیده
The polymerization of isoprene through the use of benzyl N,N-diethyldithiocarbamate (BDC) as an iniferter was investigated. The monomer concentration used was kept constant at 2.8 mol/L while the BDC concentration was varied. The polymer product was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Proton Magnetic Resonance (H-NMR), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and the results showed that the product was mainly 1,4-polyisoprene. The molecular weight, polydispersity, and percentage yield of the polyisoprene obtained were affected by the BDC concentration. The percentage yield did not increase linearly with the BDC concentration but increased initially and then decreased after a critical BDC concentration was reached. The molecular weight of the polyisoprene decreased with BDC concentration. The polydispersity ranged between 1.8 and 4.7 and decreased with increasing BDC concentration.

Synthesis of Star Poly(N-vinylcarbazole) by Microwave-Assisted Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Chain Transfer
Controlled radical polymerization of N-vinylcarbazole (NVK) via microwave-assisted reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization is described. As chain transfer agent, 1,3,5-benzyl tri (diethyldithiocarbamate), was used. The chain transfer agent, containing a 1.3.5-trisubstituted benzene ring as core and three dithiocarbamate functionalities attached through an intermed...

This thesis focuses on the development of new stationary phases for use in hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography using TRIS‐based and phosphorylcholine typed monomers and porous silica particles as starting substrates. In this thesis, several ways of polymerizing highly hydrophilic mono‐ mers onto pore surfaces of silica supports are described, based on several “grafting from” schemes. ...
متن کاملKinetic Gelation Modeling of Controlled Radical Polymerizations
A kinetic gelation model has been developed that incorporates the kinetics of a living/ controlled radical polymerization. Specifically, the kinetics of an iniferter polymerization were implemented in the model to determine the effect of the kinetics on the polymer structure. In particular, the replacement of the termination step with a reversible termination was examined. The model predicts th...

متن کاملMicropatterning of biomedical polymer surfaces by novel UV polymerization techniques.
The "living" radical polymerization with an iniferter was used to create micropatterned biomedical surfaces. Novel, photosensitive biomedical polymers were created by the incorporation of dithiocarbamate groups from iniferters. A second monomer layer was then irradiated onto the photosensitive polymer substrate created with the iniferter to form a copolymer. Patterns were created on the films b...
